ORLANDO, Fla. -- The final weekend of Florida High Athletic Association State football finals kick off Friday afternoon inside the Citrus Bowl. The weekend will feature four games and a host of talented prospects, many of which are on the radar of the Florida Gators.
Immokalee four-star CB Mackensie Alexander is likely the most coveted prospect in this weekend's FHSAA state finals.
5A: Godby vs. Immokalee - Friday 1:00 p.m.
The most publicized prospect featured in this matchup is without a doubt Immokalee’s Mackensie Alexander. The four-star cornerback has a host of schools pursuing him including Clemson, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Florida. Opposite Alexander in the secondary is Florida State 2014 commit J.C. Jackson, who also is the primary receiver on offense. Though committed to the Seminoles, the Gators continue to pursue Jackson in hopes of flipping him in the future.
Godby 2014 linebacker Jacob Pugh is a prospect on the rise of late. The lanky 6-foot-3 prospect early offers from Florida State, South Carolina, North Carolina, Vanderbilt as well as plenty more.
6A: Miami Central vs. Gainesville - Saturday 1:00 p.m.
Florida Gator commit and Gainesville wide receiver Chris Thompson will look bring home a state title against a very talented Miami Central squad. Miami Central 2014 running back Dalvin Cook, a current Clemson commit, is a prospect the Gators would love to get in the fold.
Miami Central also features Florida State 2014 running back commit Joseph Yearby and Miami 2014 offensive line commit Trevor Darling. Also for Gainesville is speedy 2014 running back Tony James who is on Florida’s board early.
7A: Tallahassee Lincoln vs. St. Thomas Aquinas - Friday 7:00 p.m.
Look for Florida assistants Dan Quinn and D.J. Durkin in the crowd for the clash between state powers for Lincoln linebacker and current Florida commit James Hearns. Ohio State assistant Mike Vrabel is also expected to attend for Hearns as well as Buckeye defensive line commitment Joey Bosa of St. Thomas Aquinas.
2014 defensive tackle Anthony Moten and 2014 wide receiver Corey Holmes of St. Thomas Aquinas are possible Florida targets in the future. Lincoln 2015 athlete John Burt and 2014 cornerback Kendall Randolph could also be prospects the Gators make a move on in the future.
8A: Cypress Bay vs. Apopka - Saturday 7:00 p.m.
The Gators do not have a surefire target in the game, there are still a few players that could find their way onto the board in the future. Cypress Bay 2014 cornerback Deion Hallmon is garnering some early BCS interest, as is 2014 safety Marquese Dudley-Gordon. Apopka 2014 quarterback Zack Darlington has caught people’s attention early.
