Freshmen turning heads in bowl prep

Brian Poole

Freshman defensive back Brian Poole has made significant strides in bowl practices for the Gators.

A pair of true freshman have turned heads in bowl preparation after coach Will Muschamp and his staff billed the practices as a chance for young guys to make their mark.

    • Our defense is going to be SPECIAL for years to come.

    • What I thought was interesting was Hunter's comment that Fowler could play the 3. Being able to move him inside and out without a dropoff at the 3 would be huge for next season.

I've said before that I think at least one of Bullard/Fowler will play a lot like Dominique Easley this year and Sharrif Floyd last year ... playing both inside and out.

    • Our secondary is second to none imo. The depth we have there would make any DC green with jealous rage. We have better depth there and overall talent IMO than Bama does. Scary how good our secondary will be in the future.

Didn't Fowler play inside his Senior year, and dominate? I thought I read that, but I could be mistaken.

    • Fowler's size surprised everyone I think, he was listed at 255 lbs (even 232 on rivals) and showed up 277. He did seem a bit sluggish though at first (comparatively, kid's still a freak). I'm hoping they can run him through an offseason conditioning and keep him right around the same because he's so athletic unless they do plan on using him at the 3 and maybe pack the pounds on Bullard who likes to be more of a power rusher. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention but Fowler didn't seem to be asked to drop into coverage as much as I had expected when he signed

    • With Powell returning the Gators should have a great pass rush from the ends and strong coverage by the deep defensive backfield.Bray made a good decision to turn pro.

      At a Dillmanized 280-285 he'd be a monster IMO.
