Cohen: Not Just The Forgotten Guy

Jacoby Brissett

Jacoby Brissett will get his first "real" home start this Saturday against Jacksonville State (photo by Steve Johnson)

Sophomore Jacoby Brissett has an opportunity on Saturday to become part of Florida's offensive equation, moving past his status as simply The Other Guy in the quarterback race

    • I still think this offense is more dangerous with Jacoby. He just sees the field better than Jeff. Beautiful spiral too. Kid has poise. Sure hope he doesn't transfer.

I agree 100%. You can tell who are a fan of football vs. Who know football. All the fans will say I hope we get jeff back so we can use his legs. But what they don't understand is you don't win games with the QB being fast. You win them with balance and passing. And JB is clearly a better passer and the OC know it as well. We been winning these weak games by 7 points to team's we should be blowing out.

    • Driskel throws just as well as Brissett...JB throws the better deep ball and JD throws the better short pass...the reason we harp on the legs is because our O-line doesn't allow for one to sit in the pocket and go through 3-4 WR in their progression...the legs are needed to escape the pressure and sack....

both guys are talented and i wish we'd stop seeing one as a better QB then the other...but see the entire picture and realize both are amazing talents and 1 just happens to fit what we are able to do this year better.....doesn't make one superior or inferior to the other...

I guess Pease and Muschamp don't know football. You say they "know it" but this is contrary to reality, as they started JD over JB.

    • ^^^ what are you talking about?! I don't know what you've been watching but there has been plenty and I mean plenty of times were the QB had time to sit in the pocket and throw the ball. We can't keep going up against these weak teams fighting to the end. One week of not being able to pass...yes. But for every week, that's not good. And JB is a better passer. JD is throwing like he did when he was in high-school. Once he get more of the short passes under control he will be better. Because he still under throw even the short routes at time.

In the passing game. Clearly who wouldn't use a mobile QB starting off, especially when everything is clicking together. But as you see the passfew weeks, that hasn't been working and teams have caught on to what's going on. Even , which scary, came down to the wire. So check all facts before you point out. Clearly your blind if you don't see the level of play these pass few weeks.

    • Why do people state that Brissett is a better passer as if it were a fact? In the little we've seen of him he hasn't proven anything. Look at the passing chart TG posted earlier today. The numbers are clearly in Driskel's favor. Brissett certainly looks like more of a pocket passer but the results have not been there.

Personally, I think the jury's still out. I don't think JD has had enough time in the pocket or JB has had enough time on the field to fully evaluate either's passing skills.

    • Very true.

      Great post, Barrister

    • Agreed--jury is still out. As much as I want JD 100% healthy yesterday, I also want JB to get in there Saturday and throw for 300.

No, you are. Clearly you didn't keep reading after that line. I analysis football and break it down. The line what you qouted of what I was saying was me pointed out from all the blogs and other post over time of people stating that " I hope we get JD back so we can use his legs" as if we been really pounding teams. I never said that one was better then the other over all. I just said a passer period. My opinion from what I've seen dated back from high school. I'm entitled to my opinion.
Clearly again you and The_Swamp did not read correctly and from a fan point because nowhere in there did I say the coaches didn't know what they were doing. I was stating what fans been posting.I was making a point about what work early on is not what is working now and we need to find a balance right now moving forward even if we need to use two QB.

Nice grammar and spelling dude. For someone trying to wax intellectual on football your post is riddled with errors.

      "I analysis"
      "The line what you quoted..."
      "was me pointed out"
      "as if we been"
"one was better then the other..."

If you are going to make intellignet points, you might help your cause by actually reading what you post first.

I am not an X & O guy when it comes to football, thus why I don't opine on who is the better QB in all these threads.

Statistically speaking, that's not entirely accurate. Driskel's line of regression for rushing yardage is actually going up. Now, his average yards after contact is going down, but that's not as meaningful a statistic. His yards per carry line of regression is going down, but he bounced back well in that statistic last week and it's a little skewed by having just two carries for 31 yards in the first game.

I say inconclusive that teams are figuring out his running. If you look at the numbers, the more accurate thing to say IMO is that he played his toughest competition, and it naturally slowed him down a little.

Yes, I agree. There were plenty of errors in there, was rushing..
