Lammons backs off his Gators pledge

Florida lost one member of its 2014 class Thursday night when Plantation (Fla.) four-star cornerback Chris Lammons confirmed via text message that he backed out of his commitment to the Gators. The decommitment comes on the heels of Florida landing a pledge from five-star cornerback Jalen Tabor earlier in the day.

When Lammons originally committed to Florida back in August, it was an extremely tight race with South Carolina. The Gamecocks have been receiving a lot of buzz of late in the Lammons sweepstakes and appear to hold a slight edge over Wisconsin, another school that never stopped recruiting the 5-foot-9, 170-pound prospect.

Lammons visited Wisconsin in November and had tentative plans to visit Florida and South Carolina in January. It’s unsure if he will still make that trip to Gainesville or not after he recent decommitment.

According to the 247Sports Composite, an industry generated average, Lammons is ranked as the nation’s No. 191 overall prospect and the No. 19 cornerback.

Florida is now at 20 commitments in the 2014 class, included four defensive backs with Tabor, Duke Dawson, Quincy Wilson and J.C. Jackson, whose commitment is shaky as well.
